Jun 24 Berlin, Germany was completely isolated from the outside world. Joseph Stalin, premier of Soviet Russia, who had already cut rail and road access to the city three months earlier, now blocked all ground and water access and cut electricity to the Western sector. Within a few days, the great Berlin Airlift began. U.S. planes dropped up to 13000 tons of goods per day for the next 10 months.
