Oct 15 Mata Hari Dutch dancer/German spy executed by firing squad in Paris 


Oct 15 USS Cassin (DD-43) torpedoed by German submarine U-61 off coast of Ireland. In trying to save the ship, Gunner's Mate Osmond Kelly Ingram is recorded as becoming inaugural American sailor killed in World War I and later is awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism. He is recorded as becoming the inaugural enlisted man to have a ship named for him, in 1919. 


Oct 17 1st British bombing of Germany. 


Oct 17 inaugural train over the Quebec Bridge over the St. Lawrence. This was constructed by the Dominion Government for use by the National Transcontinental Railway. This bridge was notorious in that it fell down twice during construction On August 29, 1907 the south cantilever arm collapsed killing 65 or more workmen.
