Mar 14 During World War II, the 617 Dambuster Squadron of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) drops the heaviest bomb of the war on the Bielefeld railway viaduct in Germany. Known as the "Grand Slam," the 22000-pound bomb, which was designed by Sir Barnes Wallis, is dropped from an Avro Lancaster flown by RAF Squadron Leader C.C. Calder.
