1942 On November - 23 steward Poon Lim set adrift for 133 days after his boat was torpedoed 

1942 The V-173, a full-scale model of a fighter aircraft with an almost circular wing, made its first flight at the Vought-Sikorsky plant, Stratford, Conn. A military version of this aircraft, the XF5U-1, was constructed later but never flown on this day in history.
