Oct 18   After 8 years in exile, Benazir Bhutto returns to her homeland Pakistan. The same night, suicide attackers blow themselves up near Bhutto's convoy, killing 136 in the cheering crowd, including 20 police officers. Bhutto escaped uninjured.   

Oct 19   A gas explosion rocked Glorietta, a shopping mall in Makati, Philippines which killed 11 and injured more than 100 people.

Oct 24   In the space of a few hours, Comet Holmes develops a coma and flares up to half a million times its former brightness, becoming visible to the naked eye. Its coma would later become larger in volume than the Sun, making it the second comet to do so in 2007 after Comet McNaught.

Nov 01   London's Metropolitan Police Service is are discovered guilty of endangering the public following the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, an innocent Brazilian who officers mistook for a suicide bomber
