1779 William Boyce, English organist/composer (Cathedral Music), dies. 

1787 Andreas Schelfhout, Dutch painter/etcher/lithographer

1804 Lieutenant Stephen Decatur, with volunteers from frigate Constitution and schooner Enterprise, enters Tripoli harbor by night in the ketch Intrepid to burn the captured frigate Philadelphia. Decatur's raid succeeds without American losses. England's Lord Nelson calls this "the most daring act of the age." 

1804 Lt Stephen Decatur raids Tripoli Harbor and burns Navy frigate "Philadelphia" after pirates seized it 

1807 Lysander Cutler, Bvt Major General (Union volunteers), died in 1866 

1812 Henry Wilson, (R) 18th VP (1873-75)
