2024 A 7.5 Mww earthquake strikes the western coast of Japan (Noto Peninsula), killing at least 462 people and injuring 1344 others.A further five are killed the next day when a Coast Guard aircraft carrying humanitarian aid collides with a Japan Airlines Airbus A350-900 aircraft, destroying both aircraft. All 379 people aboard the passenger jet are evacuated safely. 
2024 Ethiopia announces an agreement with Somaliland to use the port of Berbera. Ethiopia also says that it will eventually recognize Somaliland's independence, becoming the inaugural country to do so.
2025 Indian chess prodigy Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha, from Madhya Pradesh, is recorded as becoming youngest player to earn official FIDE (International Chess Federation) rating at 3 years, 7 months and 20 days old, besting November 2024 youngesr record holder Anish Sarkar, by about a month
